"There is a long way to go and an uphill battle to gain the appropriate amount of funding for [landmine] clearance each year. I hope my research can provide stories of progress and success to show that every single dollar the U.S. grants to Laos goes toward saving lives," Phommachanthone said.

Phommachanthone will travel through Laos to meet with demining organizations and locals to learn how demining land has improved livelihoods. She will document her journey through photography and stories paired with imagery.
